About thembainitiative-Colégio Chuiba

ThembaInitiative is addressing educational and social challenges in Cabo Delgado through the establishment of Colégio Chuiba, a high-quality, inclusive primary school, located in Chuiba-Pemba. The school will offer smaller class sizes, qualified teachers, and a strong academic curriculum that integrates English as a second language and digital literacy from the early grades. Students will gain early exposure to computers and essential information technology skills, preparing them to participate confidently in an increasingly digital world. This approach will significantly improve learning outcomes and equip students for future academic and professional success.

Colégio Chuiba will provide scholarships for children from vulnerable households, including those affected by poverty, displacement, and family instability. For many students, this school will represent a first real opportunity to access consistent, safe, and quality education — and to develop critical 21st-century skills, including computer literacy — creating a vital pathway out of poverty and dependence.

Beyond its educational mission, the school will contribute to local economic recovery by creating employment opportunities for teachers, administrative personnel, cleaners, gardeners, security staff, canteen workers, health and wellbeing personnel, uniform suppliers, educational material providers, and IT support services. This local job creation will strengthen community resilience and promote long-term stability.

While Colégio Chuiba is designed to become financially self-sustaining through affordable tuition and community participation, initial donor support is essential to build the school infrastructure, establish computer labs, and launch operations. 

Colegio Chuiba will also strive to ensure that childrens from resetlemets camps can acess education by providing scholarships, daily school transport and nutritious meals. With $130,000, ThembaInitiative can break ground on Colégio Chuiba and open the first classrooms for children in Cabo Delgado. The remaining funds will complete the school and expand capacity.

With an investment of $250,000, ThembaInitiative will construct Colégio Chuiba — delivering quality education to children in Cabo Delgado and laying foundations for peace, opportunity, and long-term development.
